Columbus Announces Virtual Board and Commission Meetings for May
As of May 4, 2020
For the past two months, boards and commissions responsible for the review of re-zonings and variance cases within BZS have been unable to meet due of the COVID-19 outbreak. Allowing for the important work of these boards and commissions to continue in a manner that safeguards our volunteers, staff, applicants and interested public has been a priority. To address this, Mayor Andrew Ginther today signed an Executive Order, aligned with the recently amended Ohio Revised Code, which temporarily allows these groups to convene remotely.
In partnership with the departments of Neighborhoods and Development and in consultation with the City Attorney, BZS will be supporting virtual meetings for its boards and commissions including the Development Commission, the Board of Zoning Adjustment, Graphics Commission and Sign Erector’s Board. Staff will be in touch with further details, but a few key points include:
Video Format – Beginning in mid-May, staff will host remote video meetings via WebEx. We will have a minimum of two staff members supporting each meeting in response to the additional technical requirements. Case materials will be shared on screen.
Meetings are open to the public. Information about how to access the meetings and provide input will be provided with announcements or can be obtained by contacting staff.
Agendas will be posted on BZS’ web site and the case materials will be accessible through the Citizen’s Portal on BZS’ home page. Applicants may choose not to proceed if they are not comfortable with the remote meeting format.
Testimony – Sworn testimony by applicants and other interested parties will be accommodated in video format.
We appreciate your patience and support as we work to get these meetings up and running. Please do not hesitate to contact staff with questions or concerns.
