New Legislation Would Make Housing a Higher Priority in Federally Funded Transit Projects

WASHINGTON, DC – Up for Growth Action applauded the introduction of the bipartisan Build More Housing Near Transit Act, introduced today by Reps. Scott Peters (D-CA) and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), with Reps. Denny Heck (D-WA), Donald Payne (D-NJ), Mike Gallagher (R-WI), and Katie Hill (D-CA) joining as original co-sponsors. The legislation would require major transit projects pursuing Federal Transit Administration (FTA) New Starts capital investment grant funding to holistically evaluate the feasibility of housing development near transit station areas as a part of their application process.
